Volgens Geofeedia is Henk van Ess “an international thought leader in social media and online journalism”. Hij is dataconsultant voor de Verenigde Naties, lid van de Nederlands/Belgische Persgroep Academie, docent bij de Axel Springer Akademie in Berlijn en geeft les bij universiteiten in Amsterdam, Groningen, Rotterdam, Brussel, Wenen, Oslo en Hamburg. Van Ess schrijft columns voor de BBC, PBS en GIJN over practisch gebruik van internet. Hij is regelmatig spreker over social media en ‘digital diggingʼ op internationale congressen. His research focuses on using data science and machine learning techniques to identify malicious users, activities and information. He is a WorldQuant PhD Fellow, and has been awarded a UMD Outstanding Graduate Student Dean’s Fellowship and the Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy Gold Medal. .![]() Prof. dr. ir. Johannes (Jan) C. Scholtes is Chairman en Chief Strategy Officer van ZyLAB. Scholtes was als ZyLAB’s President en CEO van 1989 tot 2009 betrokken bij het inzetten van eDiscovery software bij onder andere de Oorlogsmisdaden Tribunalen van de VN, de FBI-Enron onderzoeken, het Witte Huis en duizenden andere gebruikers wereldwijd. Voordat hij in 1989 bij ZyLAB begon, was Scholtes luitenant bij de inlichtingendienst van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Marine. .![]() Cees Snoek received the Ph.D. degree in computer science (2005) from the University of Amsterdam. He is currently a director of the QUVA Lab, the joint research lab of Qualcomm and the University of Amsterdam on deep learning and computer vision. He is also a principal engineer/manager at Qualcomm and an associate professor at the University of Amsterdam. He was previously a Visiting Scientist at Informedia, Carnegie Mellon University, USA (2003), Fulbright Junior Scholar at UC Berkeley’s Computer Vision Group (2010-2011), and head of R&D at University spin-off Euvision Technologies before it was acquired by Qualcomm (2011-2014). His research interests focus on video and image recognition. He serves on the program committee of the major conferences in multimedia and computer vision. Dr. Snoek is the lead researcher of the award-winning MediaMill Semantic Video Search Engine, which is the most consistent top performer in the yearly NIST TRECVID evaluations. .![]() Herbert Van de Sompel werkt als informatiewetenschapper aan het Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, Verenigde Staten. Momenteel brengt hij een sabbatical van een jaar door bij DANS – het data archief van de KNAW – in Den Haag. Herbert’s onderzoek richt zich op verschillende aspecten van wetenschappelijke communicatie in het digitale tijdperk, met een focus op web infrastructuur. Vanuit die insteek heeft Herbert in de voorbije 15 jaar bijgedragen aan verschillende succesvolle standaarden zoals OAI-PMH, Open Annotation, ResourceSync, en Memento. .![]() Christiaan Triebert is an all-source conflict analyst, currently pursuing a MA in Conflict, Security and Development at the War Studies Department at King’s College London. He received a Bachelor in International Relations and International Organisation at the University of Groningen. Christiaan has conducted fieldwork in Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine, among many other countries. He is member of the Bellingcat collective for open source citizen investigative journalism. Other than Bellingcat, Christiaan has written for Hate Speech International and geolocates alleged civilian casualty events for Airwars.
